On May 7, according to SMM research, stainless steel prices held stable. Due to different arrivals, 200-series stainless steel price changes varied in different regions, but the overall price held stable. 300-series stainless steel supply and demand were balanced. With a well-matched supply of steel mills and terminal consumption, the price will fluctuate sideways in the short term. In the morning, the price of #304 cold-rolled steel in Wuxi was 14,050-14,350 yuan/ton, and that of #304 hot-rolled steel in Wuxi at 13,550-13,650 yuan/ton. #316L cold-rolled steel was offered at 24,500-25,400 yuan/ton in Wuxi. #201J1 cold-rolled steel was offered at 8,800-8,950 yuan/ton in Wuxi. #430 cold-rolled steel was offered at 8,050-8,150 yuan/ton in Wuxi. At 10:30, SHFE SS 2409 contract was 14,375 yuan/ton. Stainless steel spot premium was -155-145 yuan/ton in Wuxi. (Spot deburred edge = bur edge + 170 yuan/ton).

This week, ferrous metals were in the doldrums, with coking coal and coke staging a mid-week rise. At the beginning of the week, financial markets experienced sharp fluctuations, dragging down sentiment in the ferrous chain and leading to a pullback in futures. Mid-week, Indonesia's cut to coke production quotas drove coking coal and coke futures to lead the gains, though the impact was more pronounced on thermal coal, while coking coal's rise was largely sentiment-driven and short-lived. In the latter part of the week, finished products continued their seasonal inventory buildup, and support from the raw material side weakened, causing the entire ferrous chain to pull back. In the spot market, with the Chinese New Year holiday approaching, purchasing activity slowed down further, with end-users only making limited, as-needed purchases at low prices.
